Facilities overview

Communicating with the World as a “Base for Sports Research Innovation” SPORTEC Sports Performance Research Center, National Institute of Fitness and Sports in Kanoya.

Constructed in March 2015, the SPORTEC Sports Performance Research Center is an indoor research facility equipped with state-of-the-art research equipment. The facility, the first of its kind in Japan, is a base for scientific research on athletic performance, specializing in the field of sports coaching.

  • Feature.1 Equipped with sophisticated, state-of-the-art facilities for conducting sports performance research.
    The SP Lab is equipped with state-of-the-art facilities for conducting sports performance research, including a 50-m force platform system which is the only one of its kind in the world. We aim to set the global standard for the development of research surrounding sports performance, to make Japan more competitive internationally in sporting events, and raise the people’s level of interest in sport in the country.
  • Feature.2 Using state-of-the-art research facilities to develop skilled athletic coaches.
    With the aim of making Japan more internationally competitive in the Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games, together with our affiliated universities, we will target young researchers and coaches from both Japan and overseas to offer innovative educational sports performance programming through the NIFS International Sport Academy and our joint graduate school program.
  • Feature.3 A broad range of methods for measuring sports performance.
    The facility provides a wide range of possibilities for measuring sports performance： equipment for measuring physical activity levels, game analyses for both individual sports such as track and field and tennis, and for team sports such as baseball and soccer.

    Lounge

    The shoeboxes, benches, and tables in the lounge were all made at Ryohokuso, a support facility for persons with disabilities located in Kanoya City. Here you can sit back and relax on a warm and comfortable bench.
